Campfires sure have great abeyance and provide an amazing evening activity or debriefing focal point . But in already impacted campsites with larger groups is it a luxury the environment can ill afford? Thoughts ?
I personally love the campfires ability to assist in facilitation. It is a great way to focus your group on something other than each other and allow them to open up to the group. I believe if it is done responsibly (ie. only using sourced wood or scavenged wood no bigger than your forearm and within reasonable amounts – no bonfires) then it is a very valuable tool for bringing your group together, keeping warm on those cold programs, and creating a space for discussion and connection.
